Renting/Living in Sweden and Finland?

topic posted Thu, March 15, 2007 - 5:29 PM by  Unsubscribed
I am applying for a study abroad semester next year and looking for information about two locations.

1 - Visby, Gotland, Sweden
2 - Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland

I am wondering how easy it would be for my boyfriend and I to rent an apartment, or a room in someones house (homestay)? Also wondering if this is a common thing to do in this part of Europe? One more . . . does anyone have any ideas what I should expect to pay in either place to rental/board?

I realize that both of these places would offer very different and unique experiences, and would love to hear everyones input, stories, links, websites, photos. (Also I would be there in the winter Jan - May). Anything people can say or encourage - We would love to make connections with people that live there that would be interested in meeting us, showing us cool things or just pointing us down the right direction. Thank you for reading this.

    Hey

First of all, I don´t know anyting about Finland, but I know that living in Visby, and especially during holidays, it is very expensive. I am not from around there, but everybody in Sweden knows that it is very costly. Where are you going to study? Isn´t there anything equal on mainland?

The University of Gotland - Art History - It will not be during summer holidays - From January to May - Winter -
This is the only University in Sweden with a Bilateral agreement (I pay same costs there as here) with my University in Montreal. Is it not so interesting there in Winter?

No place in sweden is interesting during the winter period hehe, just kidding, but in the wintertime I think that northern part of sweden is more fun with skiing etc. Visby, Gotland is very nice, great historical buildings. But if Visby is the only place that offers that kind of education in sweden, Visby is the place to go I guess.

I´m sure that you can find somewhere to rent a place if you google. I´m sure that you will have a great time in Sweden, it´s a fact that Swedes talk better english then Finns do.

go to www.andrahand.se, there you can search for available locations....
